DIY Crochet Bucket Hat

Hi everyone! Today I have a crochet bucket hat video and pattern for you. Make sure you give the below video a watch and follow along with the written pattern below that 😊

Materials:

  • weight 4 yarn
  • 5mm crochet hook
  • 1 stitch marker
  • tapestry needle
  • scissors

Pattern (crown):

  1. Make a magic loop and single crochet 6. Pull tail end to close up magic loop.
  2. Single crochet one in the first stitch and place a stitch marker in that stitch. Single crochet once more in the same stitch. *single crochet two in the next stitch*. Repeat from * to * until you reach the stitch marker again. You should have 12 stitches.
  3. Remove stitch marker and single crochet one, replace stitch marker in the stitch you just made. Single crochet 2 in the next stitch. *single crochet 1, single crochet 2 in next stitch*. Repeat from * to * until you reach the stitch marker again. You should have 18 stitches.
  4. Remove stitch marker and single crochet one, replace stitch marker in the stitch you just made. Single crochet one in next stitch then 2 in the stitch after that. *single crochet 1, single crochet 1, single crochet 2 in next stitch*. Repeat from * to * until you reach the stitch marker again. You should have 24 stitches.
  5. Remove stitch marker and single crochet one, replace stitch marker in the stitch you just made. Single crochet one in next two stitches then 2 in the stitch after those. *single crochet 1, single crochet 1, single crochet 1, single crochet 2 in next stitch*. Repeat from * to * until you reach the stitch marker again. You should have 30 stitches.

You might notice a pattern by now so below is a condensed list of more rows you might need. You will continue in the pattern until the hat is the same width as the top of your head. I believe mine is about 6″ in width. Note that “SC” means “single crochet” and “INC” means increase or single crochet 2 and that always refers to the next stitch!

  • SC 4, INC – repeat to stitch marker
  • SC 5, INC – repeat to stitch marker
  • SC 6, INC – repeat to stitch marker
  • SC 7, INC – repeat to stitch marker
  • SC 8, INC – repeat to stitch marker
  • SC 9, INC – repeat to stitch marker
  • SC 10, INC – repeat to stitch marker

Band:

Once your hat is the same width as the top of your head, you will continuously single crochet in the round until the hat reaches down to your ears. I stopped when the hat reached where my ears meet my head when wearing the hat. Also remember to remove and replace the stitch marker each round!

Brim:

  1. Remove stitch marker and single crochet one, replace stitch marker in the stitch you just made. Single crochet 2 in the next stitch. *single crochet 1, single crochet 2 in next stitch*. Repeat from * to * until you reach the stitch marker again.
  2. Remove stitch marker and single crochet one, replace stitch marker in the stitch you just made.Single crochet 1 in the next stitch and each stitch around.

Repeat row 2 until the brim is as long as you want it! I did about 8 rows which gave me 1.5-2″.

Bind off and weave in your ends!
